"Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. Temperatures this cold can possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing," explains the weather service.

Several Southeast Michigan schools are closed on Friday, Jan. 30, amid bitter cold temperatures and a cold weather advisory.

Several Kern County schools have announced fog delays for Friday.

According to WCS Public Information Officer Bart Barker, roads in the northwestern and southeastern portions of the county remain “unsatisfactory” for school day travel.

NASA has delayed astronauts' upcoming trip to the moon because of near-freezing temperatures expected at the launch site.

NASA is just days away from its first chance to launch Artemis 2, the first astronaut mission to the moon since 1972, and will attempt a critical test for the lunar flight on Monday, Feb. 2.

Four astronauts are scheduled to launch on a trip to fly around the Moon as early as Feb. 6 in the Orion spacecraft.
